Welcome to Project YSWS
Introduction
Most YSWSs are challenge-based: ship ABC, and we’ll send you XYZ prize, where the participant goes away, learns independently, and uses the Hack Club community to share ideas and get support, building a “toolbox” of skills to tackle even larger projects.
But what if you’re a beginner- and your “toolbox” of skills is relatively empty?
This is where workshops and clubs come in! As a club leader, you run workshops and offer in-person support, helping guide people through their first projects and build the skills they’ll need to go forth and create even larger, more complex projects!
Create a beginner-friendly workshop for your club, share it with the world, and we’ll provide the funding for you to run your workshop like a YSWS for one run-through! We’ll provide the resources and mentoring to help you create a high-quality workshop.
For exceptionally high-quality and unique submissions, we may invite you to run your workshop as part of a larger, official Hack Club YSWS. Whether you’re looking to create an activity for your club or want to run a YSWS, here’s your chance!
What we’re looking for
We’re looking for workshops that fill a gap in our existing YSWS offerings, that teach skills and how to use frameworks, languages, techniques, etc, that we aren’t already teaching and do so creatively!
Workshops should be beginner-friendly and teach attendees everything, from start to submission, step-by-step, in 1-3 hours.
What we are offering
Through Project YSWS, we’re offering a unique opportunity to share your work with the wider Hack Club community, and gain valuable experience in designing beginner-friendly experiences and projects!
We’re offering to everyone who creates a workshop:
- Advice and mentorship, with an experienced mentor who will guide you through the entire process.
- Funding for one in-person run-through of your workshop at the standard $5/hour (USD) rate with your club.
- Handled logistics: We’ll take care of the operational set-up of running a workshop, including submissions forms, Airtable setup, HCB, etc.
Additionally, for a few successful workshops, you may be invited to turn your workshop into a Club-friendly, official YSWS for clubs around the world! This will require a bit more work on your end, including but not limited to creating a website and actively reviewing submissions.
Let’s get started!
